Phantasmagorium
Halloween Night at the Palace of Frights
6:00–9:00 p.m.
If you love spooky science and frightful fun, Halloween night at the Palace of Frights is the place to be. Find out how nature deals with death and regeneration. Walk through a “graveyard” dedicated to debunked science ideas. Watch our Iron Science Teacher competition, where teachers compete before a live audience with Halloween candy as the special ingredient. See a sugar skull candy-making demonstration with local artist Irma Ortiz, and other candy-related activities. In the spirit of All Souls’ Day and Dia de los Muertos, we’ll also contemplate death and remembrance. Bring artifacts and personal mementos to add to our community-built altar for the beloved and departed, and see how Oakland-based artist Ruben Guzmen creates cartóneria (Mexican paper sculpture). And much more! |
